Polybags, Greenford, London

Polybags are the largest supplier of plastic bags in the UK. They approached Carnegie Group to build a new warehouse extension that flowed into the existing structure.

We began the construction phase after meeting with the client, thoroughly studying the architectural designs and engineering plans, and obtaining council approval. This entailed extending the main building, altering an existing one, and recladding new materials to tie the three structures together.

The agreed timelines could not be met for this project due to delays in the industry as a result of the war in Europe, causing major disruption in the steel industry. We did our utmost to pull this project back on course, liaising with the client throughout the difficult time. During the construction phase, a Project and Site Manager were always on hand to ensure that everything went as smoothly as possible and that budgets were honoured. After construction, industrial waste removal and landscaping options were also available.

Challenges

Some of the key challenges:

  • Minimal disruption.
  • Difference in levels of 450cm
  • Move main drainage
  • Maximise additional dead space
